Erasmus+: Galeão School Explores New Frontiers in Mobility in Spain
Student mobility has become an essential tool for students’ intellectual and cultural growth. The Erasmus+ program is one of the main facilitators of this educational exchange, offering opportunities for learning and connecting between different cultures. With this in mind, Escola do Galeão is developing an innovative project, promoting the mobility of its students to Spain, specifically to the town of Guadix, in Andalusia. The experience aims to enrich the understanding of Spanish culture and strengthen the bonds of European citizenship. The project, entitled “The School Goes to the Neighborhood”, is not limited to the exchange of knowledge, but also to the appreciation of cultural diversity, allowing students to understand the importance of coexistence in a globalized world. Between January 11 and 18, students from the EFA courses in the Imaculado Coração de Maria and Ribeira Grande classes will be immersed in this experience, having the opportunity to experience educational and social practices directly in the host country. The project coordinator, Marco Melo, emphasizes that the intention is not only to create links between the institutions involved, but also to promote the exchange of experiences and cultural knowledge. Student Mobility and the Erasmus+ Program Student mobilityhas played a fundamental role in contemporary education. Through the
Erasmus+ program
, students have the opportunity to study in different countries, expanding their academic and personal horizons. The Galeão School is an example of how this initiative can be used to transform students’ lives, promoting not only theoretical learning, but also cultural pragmatics.

Impacts of Mobility The impacts of mobility are visible in multiple dimensions. Firstly, contact with a new culture and a new teaching environment offers a different perspective on education. For many students, this is their first experience outside their usual context, which can represent both a challenge and an opportunity for personal growth. In addition, language learning becomes more fluid when immersed in this new context. Participating in an exchange program, such as the one being promoted by Escola do Galeão, not only enriches students’ academic training, but also contributes to the development of essential skills for the job market, such as adaptability, empathy and intercultural skills. Knowledge of different cultural and educational practices is essential to forming more critical and aware citizens. The Project at Escola do Galeãohttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vGhVW2Zgqmo
Learning Experiences
The mobility experience includes activities ranging from visits to local educational institutions to direct exchanges with Spanish students, providing a rich cultural exchange. Students will participate in workshops, debates and visits to tourist attractions, which will allow them to gain a deeper understanding of the Spanish education system and culture. The exchange of ideas and joint work with peers from different backgrounds will foster a collaborative and inclusive learning environment.
In addition to cultural interaction activities, there will also be a space for the development of joint projects that stimulate creativity and innovation. Students will be challenged to work in groups, develop solutions to common problems and present their ideas. This active teaching methodology fosters collaboration and the construction of meaningful knowledge, which will remain with students even after the mobility ends.
